Czech golfers had a successful day in the Second Round of the Tipsport Czech Ladies Tour in Beroun. Sára Kousková and Jana Melichová had a great round and broke into the elite ten before the Final Round. At the same time, Klára Davidson Spilková, Patricie Macková, Denisa Vodičková, and Kateřina Vlašínová will also play in the Final Round. Diksha Dagar of India will go out with a big lead on Sunday on a score of -10.
Significantly better conditions awaited the female golfers in Beroun, Central Bohemia, during the second day of play for the Ladies European Tour series participants, which decided the advancement to Sunday’s final. To the delight of many spectators on the course, there will be half a dozen Czech women out of the fifteen who entered the tournament on Friday.
Kouskova and Melichova, in particular, proved that the local technical court works well for them. Kouskova got into a rhythm on her second nine, and five birdies meant that two holes from the end, she was already on a daily score of -7. A bogey on the eighth took one shot off her score, but a jump to an overall score of -3 meant she moved into the top 10 and was soon followed by Jana Melichova with a daily total of 67 (-3 overall).
The key to the result, according to Kouskova, was the putts. “I’ve been waiting for a good day of putting for a long time, and the great greens today contributed to that. Yesterday they couldn’t be as fast because of the wind, but the greenkeepers did a great job today, it was fast, I like that. Today, without the wind, it was Beroun as we know it – there are many opportunities to score, except for the eighth, I hit all the greens in regulation, and I am also happy to have another cut in the season,” praised the Czech pro.
The Leaderboard, however, was also pleased with the performance of the other home players. Next came amateur Denisa Vodičková at -2 (69 today), the most prominent Czech favorite Davidson Spilková at -1 (68), surprisingly Kateřina Vlašínová playing on par (71 today), and Patricie Macková +1 (72), who even scored an eagle on the seventh. “Unfortunately, that was the only hole where I made a scoring putt, but many of them did not get there today,” sighed the Czech amateur.
The standings at the top crystallized significantly today. Twenty-two-year-old Indian golfer Diksha Dagar, who has already built a five-shot lead (-10) with today’s 65, is a clear contender for the title. She finished third at the Germany Masters last week, and a win in Beroun would be her first-ever win at Europe’s top series.
The Tipsport Czech Ladies Open will conclude with Round 3 on Sunday, 25 June (live on O2 TV Sport from 11:00 to 16:00).
