Nine Czech golfers had a great start at Czech Ladies Open in Beroun. Domestic favorites are on their way to the second round, other players who were not expected to do much have also surprised. Sára Kousková, Klára Spilková and amateur Jana Melichová (-4) are in divided fourth place.
The promoter of the tournament, Luboš Koželuh, estimated before the first round that up to seven Czechs players could make it in to Sunday’s final, but domestic professionals and amateurs may even exceed his estimates, because in addition to nine players above the cut, others can also hope.
The first big surprise of the opening day was his younger daughter Tereza Koželuhová, who has not played much this year due to illness, but shone in Beroun today and was even at a score of -4. In the end, she scored -2 in a split 18th place, but she was satisfied, although she was a bit knocked down by a three-putt on the 17th hole. “After the results of this year, when I played the only good round during the league at home in Dýšina, I am very pleased. I’ve made a few changes to the technique and it seems to work. I hope it will last until Saturday, “wished the young Czech professional.
A great finish was performed not only by Klára Spilková, but also by Sára Kousková and Jana Melichová, who gradually reached the elite ten and the final result -4 means in all three cases a divided fourth place, which is a historical record of Czech golf.
Jana Melichová was the first to bring the result 68 to the clubhouse. “Every year I set higher goals here, I would like to play in the TOP 15,” honestly said the best Czech amateur in the leaderboard.
Sára Kousková passed her second nine in 32 runs. “I was really looking forward to the ending. In the first half it was more demanding, it rained heavily and I didn’t play well, there were also a few mistakes. But fortunately it was not interrupted and it is a good starting position, ” said Czech hope after entering its third professional tournament.
“Except for that part of the game with the rain, I played well, but given the forecast, we were still lucky. I was a little nervous in the morning, which is why I prefer to stay on the ground, ” said Czech number one Klára Spilková.
The weather could have played a really big role today. The Czech players, with one exception, did not start the game until the afternoon and were annoyed by heavy rain on at least three holes, fortunately the expected storms avoided the Central Bohemian basin. “Two or three holes made us angry. The wind took the ball to hole seven when I hit from hole ten, but fortunately I saved a pair,” confided Kateřina Vlašínová. She birdied the final 18 and a total score of 72 means exactly the cut.
Kristýna Napoleaová (-2), but also Dominika Vodičková and Tereza Melecká (-1) and Patricie Macková (even par) will go to the second round with even greater hope. Agáta Vahalová (+1) is not far behind the progress plans.
After Friday’s program, Nicole Broch Estrup (-7) from Denmark is in the lead.
Czech players will enter the Saturday program in the morning after eight o’clock, at 10:00 am the live broadcast on O2TV Sport will start.
