Twenty-two-year-old Diksha Dagar from India won the Ladies European Tour tournament in Beroun by four shots and confirmed her leading position after the second round. Czech players also did well in front of a large crowd at the Royal Beroun Golf Club—the best of them, amateur Denisa Vodičková, finishing in a divided 17th place. Six home golfers played the final round.
Dagar entered the final round knowing she had a big lead, but soon her compatriot Pranavi Urs began to come closer, starting with five birdies on the opening five holes. But later, she cut down on her scoring, and the overall leader was at ease on her way to the title with a total score of -13 (69+65+69), four shots ahead of second-placed Trichat Cheenglab from Thailand, and with Celine Herbin from France with another shot back.
It was the first title of the season for today’s champion and only the second overall win in her professional career. She first rejoiced in her debut season four years ago in South Africa. In Beroun, she collected 45,000 euros, the highest prize in her career.
“It’s a special day for me and my father in the role of caddie; it’s only my second win on Tour. I had a great week here, the organizers had a great attitude, and I found a great course. Thank you all for your support,” said the emotional winner, who plays with a hearing impairment and has even won the Deaflympics in 2017.
The performances of the six Czech players today were like a seesaw. The defending champion Jana Melichova entered the final with a great start, breaking through to third place with a score of -6 at the halfway point, but after that, she was not that successful. Sara Kouskova also started today’s round from divided eighth place, but she began to close the gap later and, like Melichova, finished at -3, which was enough to finish divided 24th today.
“If there weren’t those two mistakes at the end, it could have been a top-ten finish; I could have avoided those. On the other hand – I went on one of the three final flights, and I couldn’t be dissatisfied. Now I’ll take a week off, then I’ll play in London,” Kouskova was already thinking about the following schedule and the next tournament.
Amateur Denise Vodickova was more successful, finishing the competition in the second ten, as she did a year ago, in the final divided 17th place. Vodičková recorded a total of -4 (73+69+70) and thus recorded the same result as the much more experienced professional Klara Davidson Spilkova -2 (75+68+71), who finished in the fourth top ten of the results list. “A good result, I’m happy, but it could have been better. A few bad decisions cost me a better ranking. On the other hand, I confirmed last year’s result, which is not bad,” said Vodičková modestly.
Scottish Laura Beveridge produced an excellent finish in today’s round, with her round of 63 shots not only moving her into the final divided fourth place but also equalling the women’s Beroun course record held by 2020 Emily Pedersen.
